How we review Naples operators and platforms

Every review starts from primary sources: the official site of the place, the platform’s terms of sale, its help pages and, where relevant, public registers. We compare the ticket-office or official-shop price with what the platforms charge, read the cancellation rules, and try to work out who actually runs the visit, because the same tour is often sold on several sites but supplied by a single company.

We quote traveller ratings and review counts only when we have been able to check them, and we keep independent ratings separate from the ones a company publishes about itself. If something cannot be verified, we say so rather than fill the gap. The verdict answers a practical question: who is this business right for, and when is an alternative the better call?

What you will not find in our reviews

No invented star ratings, no paid rankings and no copy supplied by the companies themselves. We would rather tell you when a channel is the right choice and when it is not.

Official sites: who runs the visit

For the most popular sights in the centre, buying from the operator is often the cheapest route; the platforms add flexibility or a guide, sometimes at a higher price.

• Naples Underground: the most complete first visit beneath the city, €18 at the door. At weekends and in August the skip-the-line ticket is worth it: on Tiqets it costs the same as the full price and, with the refundable fare, leaves you room if plans change.
• Galleria Borbonica: the 19th- and 20th-century counterpart to Naples Underground, open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. The €15 Standard route suits everyone and costs the same on the official shop and on Tiqets.
• La Paranza: the Rione Sanità cooperative that runs the catacombs of San Gennaro and San Gaudioso, one of the most dependable operators in the city. One €13 ticket covers both, and visits are guided only.
• Sansevero Chapel Museum: if your dates are fixed, buy on the official site as soon as sales open (€15 online, list price €12, non-refundable). If it is sold out or you want to be able to cancel, the guided visit on GetYourGuide is the best compromise.
• MANN: for a self-guided visit the official channel wins, €20 with no booking fee but no refunds either. Tiqets (€24) only makes sense if you need free cancellation or want the tour with an archaeologist.

Transport and passes

• Alibus: the sensible choice from the airport to the central station and the port if you travel light, €5 on every channel, with buses at least every 15 minutes until midnight. For four people with big suitcases, a fixed-fare taxi becomes competitive.
• Circumvesuviana: unbeatable on price for reaching Herculaneum (€2.60 from Naples) and Pompeii on your own, with stations next to the ruins; in return, trains are basic and often crowded. The Campania Express tourist train is suspended from 1 October 2026 until further notice.
• Campania Artecard: a serious and often good-value pass for three days between Naples and Pompeii, or a week packed with visits, with options from €16 to €50. With only one or two museums planned, single tickets cost less.

Tour operators and agencies

• City Sightseeing Napoli: hop-on hop-off bus from €27 for 24 hours, the same price on every channel. Useful on day one and for reaching Posillipo on line B; the historic centre is better on foot.
• NaplesBay Tour: a private tour operator (Bay of Sun S.r.l.), a sensible pick for an organised Amalfi Coast day if you book direct. For Pompeii, going on your own costs far less.
• Napoli Official Tour: a private agency despite the name, with desks in the centre and at the airport. Ask for the final price, what is included and the cancellation terms, and compare before paying.
• Trentaremi: a middleman for around thirty off-the-beaten-track experiences, with prices almost always on request. For kayaking at Posillipo, booking direct with Kayak Napoli at €30 is the better deal.
• Food tour operators: for most travellers a two-and-a-half-hour tour at €38–39 is enough; for a special evening, Streaty and Eating Europe offer more, with small groups, at €66–80.

Guides and small local businesses

• Visite Guidate Napoli: a name used by two different websites, a group of guides and a single guide, neither with published prices. Fine for a tailor-made private visit, as long as you get a quote and check the guide’s licence.
• Guide Turistiche Napoli: again, two separate businesses. GTN, on the .com domain, publishes low prices for the historic centre, from €10 for three hours; Choose Naples, on the .it domain, works on request and is best booked with a written quote.
• La Casa di Tourist: a small operator on Via Chiaia whose prices, routes and reviews cannot be verified, so we can neither recommend it nor advise against it. For Naples Underground, start with the official €18 tour.

Booking platforms: Tiqets, GetYourGuide and the rest

• Tiqets: the platform we use most for entry tickets. A sound choice for the catacombs, Galleria Borbonica and Naples Underground, where the price is the same; for the MANN you pay €4 more, and for Pompeii without a guide the Park’s own channel is better. Many tickets are refundable only if you choose the flexible option.
• GetYourGuide: first choice for walking tours, food tours, pizza classes and guided excursions, where it has more options and more reviews than anyone. For plain entry tickets, compare: the MANN is cheaper on the official site.
• Headout: reasonable when it offers better terms on the same product, such as Naples Underground with free cancellation or the MANN at the official price. Refunds can be slow or come as credit.
• tickets-naples.com: a Headout storefront with a confusing name; it is not official and not connected to us. Good if you find the official price with free cancellation; for Pompeii and combo tickets, do the maths first.
• Viator: the biggest catalogue, over a thousand experiences in Naples, useful for niche tours. Always check who the supplier is and which of its three cancellation policies applies.
• Civitatis: good for a free tour of the centre or a classic guided visit, especially if you speak Spanish; watch out for the €5 fee on free tours. For museum tickets, look elsewhere.
• Musement: worth a look for Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum, but not our first choice: few recent reviews, and weak ratings for the new TUI Musement brand.
• naplespompeii.com: a guide funded by affiliate links, like ours, and open about it. Handy for getting your bearings, but its “No. 1” label and homepage rating are its own claims.

Official site or reseller: choosing the right channel

Three questions settle almost every case. Is the price the same as the official one? If so, pick the channel with the better terms; if not, ask what you get in return: a guide, a guaranteed time slot, free cancellation. Is the ticket refundable? Official tickets bought online for Naples Underground, the Sansevero Chapel and the MANN are not. Who runs the visit? On the platforms the supplier is named on the product page; if it is not, ask before you pay.
