Naples tickets and sightseeing: what to book, what it costs, when to go
Planning Naples comes down to three things: what the official ticket costs, which day the place is closed, and whether a partner ticket actually adds anything. Here you will find official prices next to Tiqets and GetYourGuide prices, the closing days of the main sights, and a sensible way to spread your visits over one, two or three days.

Naples tickets at a glance: prices and opening hours
The table above covers the six most booked visits. The others, with official full price and closing day:
- Royal Palace: €15, 9am–8pm, closed Wednesday.
- Capodimonte Museum: €15 (€12 in the first and last hour), closed Wednesday; the park is free.
- Certosa di San Martino and Castel Sant’Elmo: €6 and €5; the Certosa closes on Tuesday.
- San Lorenzo Maggiore: €9, daily 9:30am–5:30pm, excavations visited on your own.
- Santa Chiara: basilica free, majolica cloister and museum €7, tickets at the desk only.
- Cathedral and San Gennaro Treasure: cathedral and chapel free, museum €15, no weekly closing day.
- Teatro di San Carlo: 30-minute guided tour for €9, bookable only through the theatre.
- Herculaneum: €16, open daily from 8:30am.
A handy rule for your week: on Tuesday MANN, Sansevero and the Certosa close; on Wednesday Capodimonte, the Royal Palace and the catacombs; on Monday the Aquarium, Città della Scienza and the Royal Palace of Portici. Underground Naples: four visits that are nothing alike
The names are easy to mix up, but the places beneath Naples are very different. Naples Underground, on Piazza San Gaetano, goes about 40 metres down through tuff quarries, aqueduct cisterns and air-raid shelters, with the Roman theatre included in the ticket. The Bourbon Tunnel was dug by hand for Ferdinand II under Monte Echia, then served as a shelter and a pound for impounded cars. Under San Lorenzo Maggiore you walk on your own along a Roman street lined with shops and a market hall. The catacombs of San Gennaro and San Gaudioso are early Christian cemeteries holding the oldest Christian frescoes in southern Italy. And in the Spanish Quarter a different association runs an underground tour of about an hour.

Museums, churches and palaces worth planning around
The National Archaeological Museum is the one to see before or after Pompeii: frescoes, bronzes and everyday objects from the Vesuvian towns, plus the Farnese collection and the Secret Cabinet. Up the hill, Capodimonte has a picture gallery with Caravaggio and Titian and a large free park. On the Vomero, the Certosa di San Martino and Castel Sant’Elmo give you the widest view over the bay.
In the old town, a few minutes apart, are the Sansevero Chapel, the cloister of Santa Chiara and the Cathedral with the Treasure of San Gennaro. Towards the sea, the Royal Palace and the Teatro di San Carlo share the same square, a short walk from Via Toledo and the Galleria Umberto I.
One, two or three days: how to spread your visits
Group sights by area and plan around closing days.
One day
Morning in the old town: Sansevero on the first time slot, then Spaccanapoli, Santa Chiara and Naples Underground or San Lorenzo. Afternoon along Via Toledo to Piazza del Plebiscito and, unless it is Wednesday, the Royal Palace. Sunset on the seafront towards Castel dell’Ovo. Avoid Tuesday, when Sansevero is closed.
Two days
Add a day to the north: MANN when it opens at 9am, then on foot through the Sanità to the catacombs and up to Capodimonte. This does not work on Tuesday (MANN closed) or Wednesday (catacombs and Capodimonte closed). Alternatively, spend the afternoon on the Vomero at Sant’Elmo.
Three days
On day three, leave the city: Pompeii or Herculaneum by Circumvesuviana train, or an island with the boats to Capri, Ischia and Amalfi. Full itineraries, with options for rainy days and for families, are on our things to do in Naples page.
Official site, Tiqets or GetYourGuide: which to use when
The official channel is almost always the cheapest, and it is the only one where discounts apply: €2 at MANN and Pompeii for young EU citizens (18–25 at MANN, 18–24 at Pompeii), free entry for under-18s at state sites, free first Sunday of the month. It is often non-refundable, though: the official online tickets for MANN, Sansevero and Naples Underground cannot be cancelled.
A partner ticket earns its keep in three cases. When it costs the same and lets you cancel until the day before, as with the catacombs and the Bourbon Tunnel. When the official site is sold out, which happens at Sansevero. When you want a guide the official ticket does not include, for example at Capodimonte or at MANN with an archaeologist. It is not worth it for a plain entry ticket that costs more on Tiqets or GetYourGuide, such as Pompeii. Our reviews of operators and platforms explain who is behind each offer.

The sea, tours and day trips
By the sea you can walk for free from the seafront to Mergellina, swim or snorkel at Gaiola (free entry, booking required in summer) or paddle along Posillipo on a bike or kayak tour. Among guided tours, the most popular are the old-town food tour, the hop-on hop-off bus at €27 for 24 hours, and walks in the Spanish Quarter, with the Maradona mural and museum. Which Naples tickets should I book before I arrive?
The Sansevero Chapel first: you cannot get in without a time slot, and slots run out. Then the catacombs and the Bourbon Tunnel, which always need a booking, and Pompeii in high season, when there is a daily visitor cap. For Naples Underground, San Lorenzo Maggiore, Santa Chiara or the Cathedral you can simply turn up.
Is it more expensive to buy on Tiqets or GetYourGuide?
It depends on the ticket. The catacombs, Bourbon Tunnel, Naples Underground, San Gennaro Treasure Museum, Aquarium and hop-on hop-off bus cost the same as the official channel. MANN, Pompeii, Herculaneum and San Lorenzo cost €1 to €7.50 more. Sansevero, Capodimonte and the Royal Palace cost more because a guide or guided walk is included.
What is the worst day for sightseeing in Naples?
Tuesday, if your plan is mostly museums: MANN, the Sansevero Chapel and the Certosa di San Martino are all closed. On Wednesday Capodimonte, the Royal Palace and the catacombs close. Both days work well for the underground sites, the old town or a trip to Pompeii, which has no weekly closing day.
Is the Campania Artecard worth buying?
Yes, if over three days you combine at least two or three state museums and use public transport: the Napoli 3-day pass costs €27 and includes three entries plus city transport. It does not cover Sansevero, Naples Underground or the San Carlo theatre. On Tiqets it costs from €31 and does not include transport.
