City Sightseeing Naples: hop-on hop-off bus review
City Sightseeing Naples is the red sightseeing bus that tours the city with audio commentary: one 24-hour ticket, two routes and the freedom to get off and back on when you like. Line A crosses the historic centre in 45 minutes; Line B follows the seafront out to Posillipo in 70. Prices start at €27 on the official website and on Tiqets and GetYourGuide alike. It is a good idea for your first day or for seeing Posillipo without effort; it is not a way to get around quickly.

Who runs City Sightseeing in Naples
City Sightseeing Naples is the local branch of the international red sightseeing-bus brand. Its website is run by Sightseeing Experience® s.r.l. of Cavriglia (Arezzo), part of City Sightseeing Italy. It is a private company, unrelated to ANM, the city’s public transport operator, and its ticket is not valid on the metro, funiculars or city buses.

The two routes: historic centre and bay
The ticket covers both lines, which start from Largo Castello in Piazza Municipio.
- Line A “Places of the Art”, about 45 minutes: the city-centre loop. According to local guides it passes Gesù Nuovo, Piazza Dante, the Archaeological Museum (MANN), Porta San Gennaro, Garibaldi station, Corso Umberto I and Piazza Bovio.
- Line B “Views of the Gulf”, about 70 minutes: the scenic one. It takes in Piazza Vittoria, Mergellina, Capo Posillipo, Parco Virgiliano and Via Petrarca before heading back towards the Stazione Marittima.

The starting price is the same everywhere: €27 for 24 hours. So the choice of channel comes down to other things.
- Official website: best if you book at least 15 days ahead, thanks to the 10% discount.
- Tiqets: handy if you already keep other tickets in the app; cancellation has to be chosen at checkout.
- GetYourGuide: the largest pool of reviews (6,139) and, for many activities, free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead.
Whichever you choose, the 24 hours start from the first validation on board, not from purchase: you can buy the evening before and start the next morning.
On board: services and what to expect
Buses have audio commentary in 8 languages, Wi-Fi, a hostess on board and facilitated access for disabled passengers. The free “Sightseeing Experience” app shows where the buses are in real time, so you are not left guessing at the stop.
The real reason to ride is the view: from the seafront and Posillipo, the view over the bay and Vesuvius is the best you will get without walking uphill. In the centre, on the other hand, narrow and congested streets slow the loop down considerably.

- Praised: the views and photo opportunities, and seeing the main sights without stress.
- Criticised: congestion in the centre, which stretches journey times; litter on some streets seen from the bus; and, for some, a feeling that hopping on and off is not really practical.
Our verdict on City Sightseeing Naples
City Sightseeing Naples does one thing well: it gives you a feel for the city on day one, with Line B taking you out to Posillipo and Parco Virgiliano, areas that are awkward to reach by public transport. The price is the same on every channel. It is not an efficient way to see the historic centre, which is better explored on foot and by metro Line 1.

How much does City Sightseeing Naples cost?

Is there a 48-hour ticket?
The official City Sightseeing Naples website only shows the 24-hour ticket, valid on both lines. If you see 48-hour offers elsewhere, read carefully what they include before you buy.
Where does the bus leave from?
Stop 1 is at Largo Castello in Piazza Municipio, next to the Maschio Angioino castle. Take metro Line 1 or Line 6 to Municipio, or walk from the Molo Beverello ferry terminal.
Can I use my City Sightseeing ticket on ANM buses and the metro?
No. City Sightseeing is a private service and its ticket is valid only on the red buses. Likewise, ANM tickets are not valid on board. For the airport you need Alibus, with its own €5 ticket.
How long does a full loop take?
On the timetable, Line A takes 45 minutes and Line B 70. At rush hour, though, Naples roads are often gridlocked, and one traveller reports a one-hour loop that took an hour and three quarters: leave some slack if you have timed bookings.
Does the ticket give any discounts?
Yes, at least one: the Galleria Borbonica gives 20% off the full price of its Standard route to anyone showing a City Sightseeing ticket. Other deals may change, so ask the staff on board.
